The 16th International Exhibition of Children and Young People

Villa Arttu
Around 6,800 works from 66 countries were sent to the International Exhibition of Children and Young People arranged in Hyvinkää for the 16th time. A jury consisting of art professionals chose 670 works to be awarded with diplomas. (A table showing the number of diplomas per country can be found below. The awarded participants have been informed personally, but their names are not shown here relying on data privacy.)
An exhibition of almost 200 awarded works was built in Villa Arttu, the Art Centre for Children and Young People. Paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, videos and other digital works from 46 countries are shown there. The awarded works are shown not only on the walls of the Villa Arttu Gallery, but also digitally on screens and on the Internet.
Being together and living together is a part of Finland’s Centenary Programme’s theme. In the works of our exhibition, both people and animals live together side by side, bonded by family, village, culture, species or environment. The images tell us that we need others to cope with the everyday work and tasks but also to share leisure time, to celebrate, to dine, to dance and to play.
The works show cultural differences but also the things connecting us all: a need for friendship, closeness and safety. Love and tenderness belong to everyone. Although different outside, inside we are all alike.
The works in the exhibition show also the downsides of living together. Sharing a living space may lead to abuse, being caught or even to war. A sorrow of loneliness and being an outsider are also present in the works. Yet it is sometimes good to be just by oneself. And even if a friend is not right there IRL (“in real life”), things and togetherness can be shared in a digital environment, too.
A multisensory room has been built for the exhibition. There you can relax while sensing the different materials of the room and watching the digital works of the exhibition. Working together within differentart fields is the theme of the workshops for schools and kindergartens and the Family Day’s program. At the experimental workshops, the children of kindergartens meet with the elderly and the children within preparatory education meet with the children within basic and special education.
Open Mon-Thu 12 am to 7 pm, Fri 12 am to 4 pm. Free entrance. Open for groups also before noon.
